Well Wednesday is here and so are we. We have so much to learn and share together.
Hey, did you know that what is now called Times Square today was once a horse carriage manufacturing site. It was called American Horse Exchange up until 1904. When the New York Times newspaper moved to that location and then it all changed. Wow, quite a change.
Well our mediation for today is found in Prov. 19:20 “Listen to counsel and receive instruction, That you may be wise in your latter days.”
While the whole book of Proverbs is our guide to gaining wisdom, Solomon points out a number of important characteristics.
The first step toward gaining wisdom is saving faith in Christ.
2 Tim. 3:15 “wise unto salvation
Col. 3:13 “of Christ in whom is
hidden all treasures”
In other words educated, trained people who ignore or reject Christ can succeed in making a good living, but without Him can’t make a good life-one that glorifies God.
The wisest thing that we can do is to trust Christ and live in obedience to Him.
Some of the other wise traits are:
Prov. 1:5 Listen to wise
instruction
Prov. 4:23 Guard your heart
Prov. 17:10 Profit from rebuke
Prov. 3:7 Don’t think yourself
too smart to learn
Prov. 13:20 Walk with the wise
This is by no means an exhaustive list but is definitely a good start.
So “hold onto wisdom“ as Prov. 10:14 says. Read about past saints and draw from their lives, both within the Bible and those in our more recent past history.
By reading about past believers and the rich lessons they have learned we in turn gain from them. “Receive instruction”
The more wisdom we draw from those before us, the more wisdom we will be able to pass onto those who are beginning their journey.
So Go With God and He will instill in our lives treasures that will alter our thinking & living. We must be careful not to become enamored with present day learning at the loss of wisdom of the past.
