It’s Saturday and a weekend of celebrating our freedom & independence. How blessed we are to enjoy so many freedoms of a nation established under God.
Our meditation for today is found in Prov. 19:29 “Punishment is made for mockers, and the backs of fools are made to be beaten.”
This verse concludes the instruction of Solomon to his sons of vs. 23 “fear of the Lord leads to life”. After talking about the benefits of living with a heart of submission to the Lord, then he spoke of the consequence of refusing to live this way:
vs. 24 Laziness, (purposeless
living)
Vs. 25 ignore natural laws
(punishment)
Vs. 26 disrespect for parents
(Personal dishonor)
Vs. 27 the know it all attitude
(Prideful harm)
Vs. 28 live with no regard for truth (living a lie)
Now Solomon concludes with the lessons that we should draw from these decisions -
- punishment from disobeying
societal laws
- punishment from others due
to foolish decisions
This isn’t prescribing punishment needing to be administered, but rather telling of the consequences that are the natural outcome of prideful living. Refusing to learn from God’s eternal truths, as well as, inability to observe the harm of living in rebellion to God’s guidelines.
So Go With God and He will guide your life with blessing, wisdom, peace, and mercy. You will experience all of this & more not because of your great wisdom. Rather because of His love & guidance in your life.
