Psalm 34:1-7 "I will praise the Lord at all times. I will constantly speak His praises. I will boast only in the Lord; let all who are helpless take heart. Come, let us tell of the Lord's greatness; let us exalt His name together. I prayed to the Lord, and He answered me. He freed me from all my fears. Those who look to Him for help well be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces. In my desperation I prayed, and the Lord listened; He saved me from all my troubles. For the angel of the Lord is a guard; He surrounds and defends all who fear Him."
This Psalm of David is a testimony of when David was captured by king Abimelech also known as Achish, who was the king of Goliath's home town, where he was recognized as the man who killed their hero. David was given the wise thought from the Lord to pretend he had gone insane. (wild eyed, saliva running from his mouth, trying to climb walls, etc.) as a result of what appeared to be insanity Abimelech sent him away for fear that this may be catching. The angels of the Lord had given him this thought.
Due to this experience in David's life he was inspired to write this Psalm by the Spirit. "I will praise the Lord at all times" and the "Let all who are helpless take heart" this takes on a whole new meaning with the realization of the event that is in the background, doesn't it?
"Let us tell of the Lord's greatness" only after experiencing this miraculous bit of wisdom given to David would he be inspired to "exalt the Lord together". Imagine, him passing on this story to his army and then them together joying in the great wisdom of God. He certainly didn't gain a natural admiration from his men, but there is no doubt that the Lord received much praise for providing this unusual solution.
"In my desperation I prayed ... He saved me from all my troubles." Can you imagine just how this army of tough, powerful, strong, fighters were surprised, and awed by the solution that God gave to David?
SO GO WITH GOD my believer, He has the most unusual solutions when we face the troubles of our lives. When we throw ourselves on Him, He hears our cry and gives us solutions that are foreign to our own thinking. Are you facing challenges in your life, call upon Him and He will listen and then provide other most unusual solutions, which may seem insane (literally) but they will give you a way out of that struggle.
C.H. Spurgeon wisely said, "He who praises God for blessings will always have blessings for which to praise God.". Haven't you noticed that when you gather together with believers and bless the Lord, your understanding of Him, your appreciation of Him, and your sensitivity to Him is increased?
This is one of the reasons that it is important to meet together. When we saints come together, the Lord is magnified in a way that doesn't happen when we are apart.
