What do you cal a wolf that gets lost? A where-wolf. Ok, I’m lost…
Prov. 24:12 “Don’t excuse yourself by saying, Look, we didn’t know. For God understands all hearts, and he sees you. He who guards you soul knows you knew. He will repay all people as their actions deserve.”
This verse is related to the warning of verse 11 where we are told to do all we can to rescue the person who has been unjustly sentenced. Then these verses tells us why we should seek to communicate for the defense of this innocent person.
First the excuses for ignoring this offense to justice:
We didn’t know
It wasn’t my fault, I didn’t do it.
Now we are faced with the truth of our failure:
God is aware of all who are at fault in all matters
He understands the level of our responsibility
We are responsible for our failure in guarding the souls of those around us
Each person is responsible for their actions.
Ezekiel 3:18,19 In these verses the prophet warns his people of their responsibility. To warn the wicked; in this case, they were hard hearted people, who were refusing to hear God’s voice Of instruction.
Then he goes on to tell them that their responsibility, it isn’t to change the heart of the people, but rather to warn them of their evil.
Next he goes on to comfort them, If they have spoken his words of warning, whether they are heeded or not, they will be rewarded for their care & concern, that was demonstrated in their actions.
All of these warnings are spoken for our benefit:
As we look about us we can see a multitude of applications:
The lives of innocent babies being killed (abortion)
Those who adamantly support this daily genocide
Those who for financial gain participate in this practice
Those who fail to warn people of their need for spiritual salvation
The list could go on …
The question that we are faced with personally is…
What will we do with Jesus? Will we warn others of their desperate need or will we ignore
them? Answering “We didn’t know.” God answers us back, “Don’t excuse yourself.”
So Go With God when His Spirit speaks to us, listen, and then move out in obedience & compassion. As we obediently sew the seed He will then water, till, and cultivate that seed. Be attentively listening to His voice, and His Spirit will guide you. Be careful not to pass off your responsibility, “I didn’t know”, rather take action. Our world needs Jesus desperately “Be His Voice”.
