Trivia:
Well its a brand new week and we have many new things to enter into, both in life and also in our personal conduct. Today's verse guides us in both.
By the way, Who was often in the past regarded as the king of Hollywood? Was it Cary Grant, James Stewart, Clark Gable, or Humphrey Bogart? Why not make your guess?
On the lighter side, Who is a house's favorite band? Well of course, The Doors. For they were many times the opening and the closing of new things. Ho, ho.
Challenge:
Ecclesiasted 10:12 "The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious, But the lips of a fool shall swallow him up."
Today Solomon is pointing us to the outcome of well spoken words, in contrast with the hurtful outcome of foolish words.
So let's focus on the source of these wise well spoken words. Notice that the first phrase of the verse tells us that graciousness is the source of the wise mans words and the outcome is his speech is blessings to all.
Prov. 16:23 tells us that "The heart of the wise teaches his mouth, and adds learning to his lips." In other words the wise person fills his mind with God's instruction, and then that wisdom he has poured into his mind flows down into his heart (emotions) and then they bring to his mouth, persuasive influence into those that surround him.
We see this very instance spoken of in Luke 4:14 and on. In verse fourteen it tells us that Jesus was filled with the Spirit and upon returning to Galilee, then Doctor Luke tells us this, "He taught regularly in the synagogues and was praised by everyone. then they asked, How can this be? Isn't this Joseph's son?" In other words they were asking, Isn't this that the carpenter's little boy, he isn't learned/taught in the scripture.
So you may be asking just what are we to take from this verse? Well, that is a great question. I answer that question with a question. Who unlocks God's truth to us? Yes, just like in Jesus' day it was the Spirit. So, we must before opening God's word stop and ask for the Spirit to open our eyes to His truths then as we read His words we will instructed in His ways and then these things will filter into our heart and mind then these life giving truths will in turn be poured into others lives and result in graciousness.
SO GO WITH GOD for He will guide us through the Spirits ways into truths that we have no reason to know. But as Jesus lived, learned, read, and then followed the Spirit's leading He was used to speak God's eternal truths. These words were filled with wisdom from God and as a result of their author bringing His gracious truths to Jesus were passed on for all to learn.
Both great guesses. I thinkHumphrey Bogart.
