Eccl. 1:12,13 "I, the Teacher, was a king of Israel, and I lived in Jerusalem. I devoted myself to search for understanding and to explore by wisdom everything being done under heaven."
Now in this verse we see the shift from third person in vs. 1,2 to first person in this section of the book. Solomon shifts from two varying outlooks. One who acknowledges & depends on God while the other outlook is to ignore God's ways.
We see this same contrast in the story of Adam & Eve, before sin entered the world, all of creation was good (Gen. 1:26-31); there was no shame (Gen. 24,25). After sin came upon the earth, we see; history became filled with disobedience & rebellion (Gen. 3:1-7) then came pain & toil (Gen. 3:8-24), resulting in jealousy & murder (Gen. 4:1-24) resulting in the rampant existence of evil (Gen. 6:5-7) drunkenness, shame, curse (Gen. 9:20-27) and then ultimate confusion (Gen. 11:1-9). This world that God designed for our good became destructive, all as a result of man turning from fellowship with God to ignoring Him.
The same plight is true for all of mankind today. If we seek His face & fellowship with Him all of life falls into place, with harmony & then we recognize His creative plan, and beauty, HOWEVER, when we ignore & rebell against His ways, Satan & the worlds system ushers in evil & destruction into our lives.
In the next few verses (Eccl. 1:12-18) Solomon points out the vanity (emptiness) of intellectual pursuit with out a desire for communion with God.
He begins by laying out for us his great wealth, status, and ability, and his search for happiness & contentment from life alone (under heaven). He tells us of his search in the whole learning process and his ultimate finding, learning (success) without God is empty, self glorying.
Tomorrow we will finish this verse & delve into the full meaning of his findings.
So Go With God for He brings meaning & fullfilment to our lives. As Solomon concluded in our study today, great learning, and all understanding, even philosophy are shallow, without any real, long term benefit. In other words, with out Him & a fellowship with Him, life falls short of any real long term contentment. While, with Him, even struggle, challenge & yes even in loss & pain, He brings a richness to life, that is meaningful. My dear one, rest in Him
