Psalm 99:1-5 "The Lord is king! Let the nations tremble! He sits on His throne between the cherubim.Let the whole earth quake! 2 The Lord sits in majesty in Jerusalem, exalted above the nations. 3 Let them praise your great and awesome name. Your name is holy! 4 Mighty King, lover of justice, you have established fairness. You have acted with justice and righteousness throughout Israel. 5 Exalt the Lord our God! Bow low before His feet for He is holy!"
This Psalm emphasizes several themes throughout its verses. The begining theme of these first verses relates to the way in which the God of Israel reigned the entire nations.
"Let the nations tremble" was relating to the way in which God reigns, all the nations tremble because He (God) rules with all truth, "between the cherubim" in other words He sets upon the wings of the cherib's. Which intimates the way that He rules, with truth, power, justice, and fairness. The tendency of mankind is to rule with favor towards those that He loves. However, in this reading the emphasis is that God rules with absolute holiness!
Regardless of whether He is ruling His children or nation, or a foreign nation, He requires absolute justice, fairness and justice. Notice in each of these verses these three words are coupled together, in order to emphasize the constant of His rule.
Regardless of who He was to rule over, He constantly was guided by these three guidelines. Israel had no special favor. If they broke His law, they were equally punished. The requirement for justice before Yahweh was always repentance, then payment, and turning from sin, upon God which followed Him giving cleansing and finally followed by continuous obedience.
In our present world we faced with judges who fail to mede our true justice, so we becomes perverted in the premise of justice. Then due to this injustice we find ourselves conflicted on just what fairness and justice entail. We see judges who favor one person over another, one nationality over another, one lineage over another, which all of these variances cause truth and justice to be harmed.
The inference in these verses place the ultimate ruler setting on the wings of the cherubim which are meant to emphasize the absolute premise of right being the absolute and final requirement.
In our present day we witness special treatment given out for the person who has some special treatment. Whether it be their heritage, or family upbringing, or culture, etc. The context spoken of here is that the Mighty King never, under any condition will He fail to deliver His treatment of justice regardless of nationality, kindred, or human favor, would be in any way stilted.
SO GO WITH GOD for you can be assured that His treatment of all mankind will be just, fair, and righteous. He will never alter His treatment of you, regardless of your standing. His truth will prevail! His love will be tempered with righteousness! Regardless of the earthly concerns, He will always uphold righteouness. Due to these truths, we always desire to render praise to Him. For, "The Lord is king!"
