Well just imagine it is already Friday, and we have so much to give thanks for.
You may ask who was William A. Mitchell? Well, he was just the inventor of Cool Whip, Tang, Pop Rocks, powdered egg whites, quick set gelatin, to name just a few of his inventions.
Just imagine, he invented Tang for NASA to make the metal tasting water in space to become enjoyable. While Cool dominates the freezers in grocery stores everywhere. He also formulated a pudding that became popular to GI’s they called “Mitchell’s Mud”.
Who said that one Minnesota farmhand couldn’t impact his world?
Our meditation for today is found in Prov. 21:5-7 where they teach us how I’ll gotten gain can bring harm to us. We will look at them one at a time.
Prov. 21:5 “The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty, But those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty.”
Solomon passes on the harm; that can come from ill-gotten gain.
This first harm comes from Haste which results in poverty.
William Mitchell spent years developing his inventions and nearly gave up, but after many failures decided to go to college & study chemistry. After many attempts he developed Tang and was able to find a market with his fellow workers while they worked at NASA.
This proverb was an inspiration to William - He carved this on his farmhouse shop - “Planning usually leads to plenty” then he quoted the last phrase of Prov. 19:2 “haste makes waste”
Prov. 19:2 in whole says “Enthusiasm without knowledge is no good; hast makes waste.”
Benjamin Franklin was also inspired by this verse, in fact he quoted it in his Almanac.
Solomon quoted God’s instruction to his sons.
Plan wisely - spend time on your
strategy
He learned this from his
father, David a military genius
who spent most of his life in
defending himself & his men
from powerful, overwhelming
forces with only a few men.
Work hard - he also learned this
from his father,
while he roamed
throughout the
harsh terrain of
Israel to avoid
defeat from king
Saul who was
jealous of David
Don’t take short cuts - there is
no fast way to success
Tomorrow we will look at the second instruction about ill-gotten gain.
So Go With God He will faithfully reward you with blessings as you give yourself fully to His ways.
I will admit and say haste in making decisions was my biggest problem especially with credit cards it led me on a credit cards debt I have learned a big lesson in making decisions about hasteful decisions I just tear up all those pre approved credit cards now Think before you react
