Challenge:

Ecclesiastes 11:10b "And put away evil from your flesh, For childhood and youth are vanity."

Now just what did the statement "Put away evil" mean? Well Paul while mentoring young Timothy in his early ministry addressed this thought in 2 Timothy 2:22 "Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts."

This thought directed Timothy away from those who were continually motivated by the fleshly appetites, but instead draw to people who are pure in heart. In other words, Look to the eternal works of life and purity of heart. Those who aren't seeking to draw us to fleshly intentions, but rather are desirous of communing with God in their daily life.

Just as a child, if offered an ice cream cone, or a ham sandwich will usually take the offer of ice cream rather than the sandwhich, so also we should develop an appetite for the desires for eternal benefit in our lives rather than the immediate satisfaction. This reponse is opposite of our natural response, but in the long run is of greater enriching influence.

We should strive to desire spiritual enrichment, for its benefit if of greater blessings.

SO GO WITH GOD my dear one and He will naturally cause our hunger to be for the love and peace, rather than a hunger for the immediacy of ice cream.

When I was a boy many times my parents were busy teaching, conducting childrens church, and I was left to set with my sister, it always seemed on of my friends would be setting near by. They would try to distract me from the message while my sister would attempt to lovingly guide my attention to the sermon. I found that the best way to focus on the sermon was to move closest to her, ask to share with her Bible, and that was the best way to state my desires. My friends would then be encouraged to listen to the message rather than play, and distract us from hearing the message.

Later I learned the benefit of taking notes, writing thoughts that were best remembered when written down. This practice ultimately guided my attention in the best ways I ever found for moving my attention away from distractions and towards my Heavenly Fathers desires for my life.
