Well, the right answer to our question of the famous novel which Starbucks took its name after was the... drum roll... Herman Melville's story of Mody-Dick. Starbuck was the first mate of the whaling ship the Pequod.

By the way, Starbucks is the largest coffeehouse chain in the world, with over 34,000 stores in 80 countries around the globe. I must say when I'm looking for a place to plug in my computer & study or read; Starbucks is my choice place. Over the years they have also been a nice place for Becky & I to stop and buy a cup of joe & just share time together.

Prov. 29:20 "There is more hope for a fool than for someone who speaks without thinking."

In Proverbs we have found that much is said about our use of words. Here we learn that the person who consistently responds in words, before reasoning/thinking out the full concern of a matter. That he begins speaking about, is hopelessly and in worse shape than the total fool.

In fact he is in the same class, as the man who thinks himself all knowing. Prov. 26:12 "There is more hope for fools than for people who think that they are wise."

We learn from this warning that even the most wise person can become foolish when they speak before they think. My dad used to say, "engage your brain before you speak." These were trucking terms back before automatic transmissions were in use primarily in big trucks. Due to the fact, that you had several transmission levels (boxes), it was important to be aware of just how much weight, and how steep the incline was before slipping the clutch to begin moving your truck, and determining the speed that the transaxle was set at. Both of these issues were vital as to whether you were going to be able to move the load, without killing the engine or damaging the transmission.

In other words Solomon's warning was that it was better to be silent on a matter, or to take time to choose your words carefully, rather than speaking & thinking later. We have all spoken to quickly on a matter and then witnessed the outcome of our hasty words. The hurt that has fallen, the harm that has resulted, the consequence that we have witnessed.

Many times, in more weighty, life altering decisions, we are prone to become frustrated by this tendency. Of other, more mature people, considering all sides of a matter, to fully think about an issue that may have extensive ramifications into our lives. But here, Solomon is encouraging us to take the proper time to consider all angles before jumping into a matter.

Our Heavenly Father is many times misunderstood, because He knows the best timing for any major change in our life. We pray wanting his intervention & response immediately and then when He seems to be not listening, or not being concerned. Then we become impatient and enter into a decision outside of His wise strategy & then we see the harm it results in.

We've all seen a small visual experience of this. Where a parent or caring person has given an expensive, or intricate gift. The child's parent upon seeing this, tells the child to not fully open the gift till some time can be given to explain its proper use. However, the child being so anxious to enjoy their gift, sneaks it out, and losses the most important part of the gift, and as a result renders it useless.

In this way our Father is warning us to take the time to consider our decision before harm can come to us. All of us if we are honest have made these kinds of hurtful decisions. The movie "Ferris Bueler's Day Off" is a perfect example to this warning. Though it is a humorous, inventive, movie, I'm afraid that the lesson that should be learned through this movie isn't dealt with as seriously as it really should've been. Should a parent view this which due to its movie rating PG-13 should be the case. Hopefully this movie will be discussed and taken time to discuss this important lesson.

As Solomon left this important lesson for his sons & the sons of Israel, to ponder. Part of the dilemma that Solomon wrestled with in Ecclesiastes was due to this vital lessons that he felt that they all were unable to appreciate or take the time to gain proper insight into, resulting in them experiencing the very same consequence that the child receiving a priceless gift, and losing it, or destroying it due to inexperience.

So Go With God for though we may not fully understand these vital lessons, if we lend our ears, eyes, & minds and hearts, He will instruct us in the best ways for us to go. Rest in His leadership & we will never be sorry.

I know as a young man I was given the opportunity to attend Basic Life Principle conference & this lead me to consider the many things that Solomon was desirous of for Israel to follow in. Becky & I took our children to this class many years later, and our prayer was that amid the turmoil of the world about them, they would come to understand these principle that are repeatedly found in the scriptures.

Not only did we attend these classes, but we also made many of these instructions a large part of the studies we taught the teen groups we were in ministry too, over the years.
