Well we have several praises today, Laurie had 4 kids and 2 adults at their middle school Bible club; and Elsinore GNC had 5 new kids enroll in our club, 12 children attend and 1 young girl receive Christ.
Challenge:
Psalm 62 6-12 "He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken. 7 My victory and honor come from God alone. He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me. 8 O my people, trust in Him at all times. Pour out your heart to Him, for God is our refuge. 9 Common people are as worthless as a puff of wind, and the powerful are not what they appear to be. If you weigh them on the scales, together they are lighter than a breath of air. 10 Don't make your living by extortion or put your hope in stealing. And if your wealth increases, don't make it the center of your life. 11 God has spoken plainly, and I have heard it many times; Power, O God belongs to you; 12 Unfailing love, O Lord, is yours. Surely you repay all people according to what they have done."
David starts off this section of verses with the thought, "I will not be shaken". David had learned through his walk with God that no difficulty in life has mastery over our faithful God.
Next in verse 7 he declare that all of his victory & honor are dependent on his faithful God. Psalm 97:6 goes even a step further when it says, "The heavens proclaim His righteousness; every nation sees His glory." Just think for a moment about that, regardless of where you are in the universe the heavens declare God's right ways and His glory to all.
Each year when we took our youth group on a camping adventure, we would take a night trip with the boys and lay on our sleeping bags in the night. When your in the desert and the lights of any nearby city is gone, you just can't help but be made aware of the vast amount of stars that are hung in the sky, What a wonder. Many of the teens had never camped outside of the LA proper, Anaheim's, etc. light. When they were laying out under that open sky they were amazed by this star studded sky. Just before going to sleep we would lay down and the wonder of God's creation would bring to our mind this amazement.
Many of the young men when faced with this display would join in prayer to place their trust in the Lord for His salvation. "O, my people, trust in Him at all times. Pour out your heart to Him, for God is our refuge."
SO GO WITH GOD my dear ones, He calls to you in verse 8 , "O my people". That word was specially chosen by God. That word "people", speaks of His personal process of creation, He made you, He fashioned you not in mass, but in the most personal way.
He took your parents and their expression of love for one another, and began to form your being, who you are, how you think, the body you have been given, in your very formation He took the most personal place in your life.
He outside of your parents and even in your world, he placed you in the center of your mothers body, in the embiotic sack and He began the process of fashioning you. The color of your eyes, the shape of your ears, the strength of you bones, each and every characteristics of your being He formed.
Now I ask you, if God was so involved in your very beginning is He going to allow any harm to come to you? NO!!! Not if we look to Him for His place of refuge.
Remember those last few verses, "God has spoken plainly, ... Power, belongs to you (God); unfailing love, O Lord is yours." This God who fashioned you from your very first instant, when you allow His working in your life will continue to pour into your life His expressions of His unfailing love on you. Will He forget you, or leave you, or bring harm to you? NO!!! You are His uniquely fashioned child, so my dear one rest in His continuing work in your life.
No event, location, or circumstance will He allow to harm you His child, so rest in His unfailing love, and remember you are His specially formed child who He has sent out to accomplish those things that only you are capable of accomplishing through your life.
Oh my dear one, hold up your head for you are the representation of His honor, and victory in this world. He will be your refuge, rock, and fortress today, tomorrow and all of the coming days. Verse 8 says, "Trust in Him, pour out your heart to Him, and He will be your refuge".
