Challenge:
Psalm 51:1-7 "Have mercy on me, O God. because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins. 2 Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin. 3 For I recognize my rebellion, it haunts me day and night. 4 Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight. You will be proved right in what you say, and your judgement against me is just." 5 For I was born a sinner--yes, from the moment my mother conceived me. 6 But you desire honesty from the womb, teaching me wisdom even there. 7 Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow."
This Psalm lays out the merciful working of God in our lives. He ministers to us His unfailing love, His compassion, His removal of our sins from our lives. The required work on our part is the recognition of our reprentance, to recognize our being aware of rebellious ways, against our gracious God. We have no excuse for from our very birth, we wrestled with sin.
Finally we must come to grips with the the necessity of our desiring for His cleansing, as well as His grace, and His purifying my very inner being.
Our life experience teaches us that until we surrender to our Lord and appeal to His mercy and covenantal love we cannot know forgiveness, and cleansing. The gathering of believers is the only place that we come to grips with our sin condition. Other human organization try to build people up by telling them of how wonderful they are.
In this psalm we learn three basic areas of confession; 1) a right view of sin 2) a right view of God
3) a right view of ourself. In the coming verse we will fully see clearly these last two qualities.
SO GO WITH GOD my dear one for He will never attempt to give us a snow job as to our present condition before Him. You can rest fully in His forgiviness and cleansing without fear of our future place in Him. .
