Well it’s another day to walk in fellowship with the Father. Today we come to a challenging verse.
Prov. 11:22 “A beautiful woman who lacks discretion is like a gold ring in a pigs snout.”
Just a little background, in ancient times a nose ring on women was a sign of beauty, loyalty, importance and honor to her husband, family or kingdom. Almost equal to a crown, ear rings, necklace, bracelet, etc. (Gen. 24:47)
Having raised pigs as well as had a pig for a pet, I can tell you that for to a pig his nose is his equivalent to our hands, and a ring in his nose is an irritant to the pig not an honor. It would for the pig be a bother. Kind of like trying to brush your teeth while wearing a boxing glove.
So you may ask what is the concept Solomon is trying to convey?
He is trying illustrate for us the value of inner beauty over external beauty. A person of wisdom, kindness and compassion is of great value to the lives of all people; over wearing a tuxedo to a camping trip, or a valuable pearl necklace to milk the cows.
I hope this makes sense, if you were dealing with a hurricane would you stop to change earrings or put on a wedding dress?
In other words, We should place greater value on discretion over beauty.
Go with wisdom from God and he will make you a person of true beauty.
