Amazingly it is Friday the end of a busy week. So, You may ask what brought about the tradition of throwing your hat into the air upon graduation.
It is believed to have all began in 1912, at the graduation from U.S. Naval Academy. Upon graduation they were given their officers cap, and so wouldn’t need their midshipman hat.
That year the Navy was in need of junior officers so they relaxed the rules and recognized them as full ranking officers.
So upon graduation the class threw their caps into the air in celebration; and a tradition was born.
Today our meditation is found in Prov. 19:16 ”He who keeps the commandment keeps his soul, But he who is careless of his ways will die.”
Here wisdom is equated with honoring God’s commands. The book of Proverbs contains the applications & implications of all that is found in God’s moral law.
The Hebrew word that is used here is “mitswah” and refers to the law found in Exod. 24:12 but here it is referring to all wisdom teaching in general.
Prov. 2:1 Treasure my
commands
Prov. 3:1 Store my commands
Prov. 4:4 Follow my commands
Prov. 6:20 Obey my commands
The basic teaching is that all of these commands serve a vital role in protecting us from sin & harm.
Prov. 6:23 “For their command is a lamp and their instruction a light; their corrective discipline is the way to life.”
In other words, The benefits for keeping our Father‘s commands include a long & peaceful life.
So God With God for it is an act of self-love; but to follow the foolishness of the world is to hold onto harm & even ultimately death. So, not only is a life of yearning for our Father‘s ways in our life brings blessings but is also, rich in rewards.
