What Is The Everlasting Covenant?
Trivia:
You got it right!!! The “station wagon” was the favored car of the 1960’s family road trip, now it is the SUV.
Which is the most populated city in the state of Missouri? Let’s see how you do on this one, I will admit I got this wrong, myself. Jefferson City; St. Louis; Columbia; Kansas City.
Challenge:
Psalm 105:1-8 “Give thanks to the Lord and proclaim His greatness. Let the whole world know what He has done. 2 Sing to Him; yes, sing His praises. Tell everyone about His wonderful deeds. 3 Exult in His holy name; rejoice, you who worship the Lord. 4 Search for the Lord and for His strength; continually seek Him. 5 Remember the wonders He has performed, His miracles, and the rulings He has given, 6 You children His servant Abraham, you descendants of Jacob, his chosen ones. 7 He is the Lord God. His justice is seen throughout the land. 8 He always stands by His covenant—the commitment He made to a thousand generations.”
Now you may be asking what is the covenant that is spoken of here that God will uphold to a thousand generations. That is a great question, and we can go back to the begining of the original covenant that was made to Abraham in Genesis 12:1-20, the later confirmed to Isaac in Genesis 26:3,4 and still later affirmed to Jacob in Genesis 28:13-15.
As we walk through Israel’s history we see just how God removed roadblocks and conquered enemies to bring His promise to pass. Even today we see God’s faithful fulfilling of this promise. In the continuing verses of this chapter we will see just how God continues to honor His promise, and is faithful to fulfill these very promises. (to a thousand generations)
Now in the New Testament Jesus came to the entire world to deliver God’s covenant through Jesus’ shed blood, death on the cross, and His resurrection three days later. This covenant is declared to us in Hebrews 13:20 “Now may the God of peace—who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, and ratified an eternal covenant with His blood, … May He produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to Him. All glory to Him forever and ever! Amen.”
Just think Jesus gave His life blood on the cross to open up this covenant to us, a gentile people. Now we can live under the shadow of the cross and walk with Him, in newness of life.
SO GO WITH GOD for He opened up the way for us to become His eternal children. My dear child walk in that reality each and everyday. You have been given the gift of this covenant promise. “He is the Lord our God.”
