Can you guess which town was named in a coin toss. Well if you said it was Portland, Oregon you were right. Two influential men in the area Ada Lovejoy & Francis Pettygrove couldn’t agree on the towns name so they agreed to a two out of three coin flip. Francis won so he named the town after his home town in Maine.

Proverbs 24:1,2 Don’t envy evil people or desire their company. For their hearts plot violence, and their words always stir up trouble.

This warning gives two words of instruction & then two reasons for this instruction:

1) Don’t be jealous or the ,evil persons success

2) Don’t even try to hang around them

1) They will always have at the base of their actions violence & harm for others

2) Even by their conversations they try to create trouble

Evil is used in the Bible more than 550 times and 50 times in this book. Evil is defined as the opposite of righteous.

Everything the evil person does is tainted with harm & destruction. We may ask why? Well that’s simple because the person they have sworn total allegiance to (Satan) is the very source of evil.

So Go With God His Son Jesus has left the Spirit within us & so everything we are desirous to do is holy & righteous, the opposite of evil. Oh, we may be caught off guard & fall into doing evil, but then the Spirit convicts us and then guilt & repentance wins out. How blessed we are to know His overshadowing presence in our lives.
