What was Israel’s Greatest Offense To God?

Trivia:

That is right you guys, Chicago is the third largest city in the U. S. In fact in the last census in 2020 its population was 2.7 million people.

Here’s one I didn’t know; What is our national fruit? Watermelon; Orange; Apple; Blueberry? Let’s see how you guess on this one.

Challenge:

Psalm 106:24-29 “The people refused to enter the pleasant land, for they wouldn’t believe His promise to care for them. 25 Instead, the grumbled in their tents and refused to obey the Lord. 26 Therefore, He solemnly swore the He would kill them in the wilderness, 27 That He would scatter their descendants among the nations, exiling them to distant lands. 28 Then our ancestors joined in the worship of Baal at Peor; they even ate sacrifices offered to the dead! 29 They angered the Lord with all these things, so a plague broke out among them.“

Which was the greatest offense?

Vs. 24 they refused to enter the promised land

Vs. 24 they didn’t believe God could give them the victory over the giants there

Vs. 25. complained in their tents about no permanent home

Vs. 28 worshipped the god of Baal & ate sacrifices not kosher (not free of blood)

If you chose the worshiping false gods, you got it right, for as we notice all of these other offenses could be confessed, and then be forgiven, however, to worship a false god required an animal sacrifice. (life for life) It required a death atonement and purification, which was equal to the greatest offense against mankind, of murder.

Now, you may be asking how can we know that this is true? The answer is, that whenever this offense was recorded in scripture, if it wasn’t corrected a plague would result. In verse 29 we see this very result recorded, “so a plague broke out.”

Though Israel committed many offense's, disobedience, faithlessness, complaint’s, etc. the offense of worshiping false gods, was the gravest offense.

This should tell us just how important our walk with our Heavenly Father is to Him. Just think for a minute; What was the one exercise recorded in the garden that Adam &

Eve did in tandem with God. Right, they walked with God daily. So, how important is our daily devotions to God?

SO GO WITH GOD my dear friend, for He yearns that kind of daily fellowship. Not just because He needs it, but because “we all need it.” Why? Primarily because it provides the attitude adjustment that is so vital to our ability to walk circumspectly (in balance) with Him.

To keep our mind focused on the eternal book helps us to keep the upward look. Take a minute to read Isaiah 26:3.
