Well good morning to you and may the Lord be near to you. By the way, What do you find at the end of everything? You guessed it the letter G. Oh that was a tough one. Ha!!!

Our meditation today in found in Prov. 17:22 “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.”

Yesterday we meditated on the first part of this verse, but today

lets focus on the second part. How a broken spirit affects us.

Throughout Proverbs it talks about the benefit of a happy, joyful, frame of mind. However, an anxious, discouraged spirit will weigh us down.

Here are a few thoughts regarding it:

Prov. 12:25 Worry weighs a

person down

Prov. 14:30 ... jealousy is like

cancer in the bones.

Prov. 15:13 ... a broken spirit

crushes the spirit

Prov. 15:15 For the despondent,

every day brings

trouble;...

Prov. 18:14 ... who can bear a

crushed spirit?”

Solomon is pointing out the role that our attitude and feelings have in terms of our physical health & well being. For many years this outlook has been ignored, however, the medical profession has come to a better understanding of this reality.

Have you ever been overtaken with worry, overwhelming fear, uncertainty? Well the Bible talks about many of these sorts of occasions. The remedy to this struggle is found in:

Psalm 31:24 “Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all you that hope in the Lord.”

Psalm 42:5, 11; 43:5 Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, for who is the health of my countenance, and my God.”

This is such an important message that the Psalmist repeated it exactly 3 times and then he repeated this truth 12 more times in varying ways throughout the rest of the book.

Psalm 71:5 you are my hope

Psalm 71:14 I will hope continually

Psalm 78:7 set your hope in God

Psalm 119:49 you cause me to

hope

Psalm 119:81,114 ... I hope in your

word (promises)

Psalm 130:5 I wait... I hope

Psalm 130:7 Let us hope in the

Lord ... His plenteous

mercy & redemption

Psalm 131:3 ... hope in the Lord ...

now & forever

Psalm 146:5 Happy is he ... whose

hope is in Him

Psalm 147:11 The Lord delights in

all who hope in His

mercy

What a treasure chest of truth.

So Go With God and He will fill up your heart & life with HOPE. His mercy & salvation is unlimited for us His children, so walk in this truth My dear one.
