What better way to honor those fallen soldiers who have given to us so much?

Monica Michael in 1915 encouraged others to wear a red poppy in honor of their sacrifice, and then she authored this poem:

We cherish too, the Poppy red

That grows on fields where valor led;

It seems to signal to the skies

That blood of heroes never dies.

What greater love than to give your life for others?

David reminds us of our Savior and all He has offered for us, not just for this life, but for eternity.

Challenge:

Psalm 17:1-15 "O Lord, hear my plea for justice. Listen to my cry for help. Pay attention to my prayer, for it comes from honest lips. Declare me innocent, for you see those who do right. You have tested my thoughts and examined my heart in the night. You have scrutinized me and found nothing wrong. I am determined not in what I say. I have followed your commands, which keep me from following cruel and evil people. My steps have stayed on your path; I have not wavered from following you.

I am praying to you because I know you will answer, O God. Bend down and listen as I pray. Show me your unfailing love in wonderful ways. By your mighty power you rescue those who seek refuge from their enemies. Guard me as you would guard your own eyes. Hide me in the shadow of your wings. Protect me from wicked people who attack me, from murderous enemies who surround me. They are without pity. Listen to their boasting! They track me down and surround me, watching for the chance to throw me to the ground. They are like hungry lions, eager to tear me apart--like young lions hiding in ambush.

Arise, O Lord! Stand against them, and bring them to their knees! Rescue me from the wicked with your sword! By the power of your hand. O Lord, destroy those who look to this world for their reward. But satisfy the hunger of your treasured ones. May their children have plenty, leaving an inheritance for their descendants. Because I am righteous, I will see you. When I awake, I will see you face to face and be satisfied.

This Psalm is broken into three sections:

  1. An appeal for justice

  2. An appeal for Mercy

  3. An appeal for deliverance

Why did he feel that justice was offered to him?

His determination to live righteously

His purposeful guarding of his thoughts and emotions

His continual obedience to God's commands

His desire to stay in the path of God, refusing to waver in following after other gods

Why are we worthy of receiving His mercy? Here he tells us of the demonstration of God's continual mercy

His consistent answering to those who call upon Him

His willingness to stop, and give His careful, full attention to them

His unfailing love and the many ways that this is demonstrated

His purposeful, consistent willingness to rescue the weak

As we look to these ways that our Lord is faithful, to us His children, How can we possibly not offer praise, honor, and determination to follow after Him?

SO GO WITH GOD for He always rescues us from those who are seeking to bring harm to us. Because we look to Him for reward and He in turn treats us as His treasured ones, and pours out His bountiful, rich, blessings even on our descendants. But most of all, because we have the realization that true. lasting, fulfilling satisfaction will be ours for all eternity as we gather around our Savior and Lord, and the saints of the ages. Where else would want to be, my dear one?
