Challenge:

Psalm 69:5-13 "O God, you know how foolish I am; my sins cannot be hidden from you. 6 Don't let those who trust in you be ashamed because of me, O Sovereign Lord of Heaven's Armies. Don't let me cause them to be humiliated, O God of Israel. 7 For I endure insults for your sake; humiliation is written all over my face. 8 Even my own brothers pretend they don't know me; they treat me like a stranger. 9 Passion for your house has consumed me, and the insults of those who insult you have fallen on me. 10 When I weep and fast, they scoff at me. 11 When I dress in burlap to show sorrow, they make fun of me. 12 I am the favorite topic of town gossip, and all the drunks sing about me. 13 But I keep praying to you, Lord, hoping this time you will show me favor. In your unfailing love, O God, answer my prayer with your sure salvation."

In this passage David let's us into his internal concerns, he begins with his his fear of making God ashamed due to his failures in life. Then he goes on in verse 6 to clarify just what those fears are; that he might humiliate the Lord in the ways that he fulfills his duties as king of Israel. Next he lays out to God just why sometimes he fears that he may bring humiliation upon God in verse 7. This is because of the many insults that he endures by the pagan kings of his world. They hurl these insults on him because of the way he strives to humbly obey and honor God's words, and commands. After all they as godless leaders make the commands, lift themselves in pride, etc.

Next David admits in verse 8 to God that even his people, and fellow leaders, etc. ignore his commitment to His God, and try to pretend that he is not present in their lives. (ignore him) He then establishes just why they conduct themselves this way in verse 9. It is because of his passion for following and walking righteously before God, his drive to be upright and live with a purpose to be a man of integrity.

In verse 10 he illustrates exactly why they conduct themselves in the way that they do. They are embarrassed in the openness that he conducts his worship to God; His sorrow for his failures and the failures that the nation and its leaders conduct themselves in. Due to this transparency that he purposes to express openly to everyone, they are embarrassed by this and as a result make fun of him behind his back.

Verse 11 describes the extent that David demonstrates his worship to his God, he dresses in burlap rather than his kingly robes when he is in mourning for his failures to portray himself as a servant to his God. Next verse 12 he openly tells the Lord about what his concerns are for walking rightly before God and what that may bring on his life. Even the town gossip and drunk make fun of him and even go to the extent of making up songs jesting of his commitment to walking openly before the Lord.

Finally in verse 13 he calls out to God to prove the value of his fellowship with Him the Living God; through answering his prayers by Israel being blessed, becoming prosperous, and gaining honor as an influential nation to their world that lives around them. We can't help but notice the many blessings that Israel experienced due to David's constant desire to bring honor to God by his daily conduct. Now, don't get me wrong, he wasn't perfect, he had his faults, but his greatest desire was that he walk uprightly before his God.

SO GO WITH GOD my dear one, though at times you may be misunderstood and even ridiculed and maybe even insulted, non the less, He our faithful, unfailing God will uphold our desire to daily honor Him.
