Challenge:
Psalm 52:1-5 "Why do you boast about your crimes, great warrior? Don't you realize God's justice continues forever? 2 All day long you plot destruction. Your tongue cuts like a razor; you're an expert at telling lies. 3 You love evil more than good and lies more than truth. 4 You love to destroy others with your words, you liar! 5 But God will strike you down once and for all. He will pull you from your home and uproot you from the land of the living. 6 The righteous will see it and be amazed."
In this Psalm we see God dealing with the boasting of those who live in defiance of God, and His ultimate judgement upon the wicked people of our world, and ultimate expression of His steadfast love that God promises to pour out on our lives, as we live in harmony with Him.
This is called a maskil Psalm that comes from the word sakhal which means "to have insight." With this title given this Psalm in mind the very first verse ended with declaring this truth. "Don't you realize God's justice continues forever?"
Those who live with evil intent in all that they do, fail to realize that the justice of God will uphold those who honor Him. This is a true saying not just for one time, but for all of time.
The second truth is that the very words of those who live in harmony with wicked intent will bring loss to others who listen to their lies.
The third issue that this Psalm deals with is that these wicked people joy in bringing harm to those who they have tricked by their words and promises.
The fourth truth told in this passage is, God will bring a righteous outcome to these who have rebelled against God, and justice to their evil conduct.
Finally, these words ring out, Verse 5 "God will strike you down" then verse 6 "The righteous will see it and be amazed".
